About the Artist – Sobre La Artesana
Barbarella is a creative multi-talent who has in the past been a songwriter, musician, photographer and a graphic and web designer, amongst other things. Hailing from Germany, she lived in London (UK) for 20 years before settling in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands (off the west coast of Africa). She lives in the south of the island with her 3 cats, Ruby, Jupiter and Callisto, and she tries to spend as much time in the ocean as possible.
While she still designs websites and graphics today, her main creative focus now is on producing original and unique works with her hands. Her art is inspired by everything around her, but mostly by her two biggest passions: Cats and the Ocean.
The latter is also where a lot of her materials come from. She can dive to around 6 to 7 metres depth and picks up a lot of cool things from the ocean floor, such as shells, sea urchin tests and sand biscuits, as well as the odd beer can or plastic bottle, to dispose of when back on land!
You might be surprised to hear that she has only been making dreamcatcher inspired wall hangings, keyrings, jewellery and all her other artistic creations for less than two years now. She studied macrame techniques and tying different knots with YouTube tutorials, but once she knew how to do those, she stopped copying and started making her very own creations.
She loves colour, and you will find arty objects of just about every shade under the sun on this website.

Barbarella es una creativa polifacética que en el pasado ha sido compositora, música, fotógrafa y diseñadora web y gráfica, entre otras cosas. Originaria de Alemania, vivió en Londres (Reino Unido) durante 20 años antes de establecerse en Lanzarote, en las Islas Canarias (frente a la costa occidental de África). Vive con sus tres gatos, Ruby, Jupiter y Callisto en el sur de la isla, e intenta pasar el mayor tiempo posible en el océano.
Aunque hoy en día sigue diseñando sitios web y gráficos, su principal interés creativo se centra ahora en producir objetos artísticos con sus manos. Su arte se inspira en muchas cosas que la rodean, pero sobre todo en sus dos grandes pasiones: los Gatos y el Océano.
Este último es también el lugar de donde provienen muchos de sus materiales. Puede bucear hasta unos 6 a 7 metros de profundidad y recoge muchas cosas interesantes del fondo del océano, como conchas, caparazones de erizos de mar y galletas de arena, así como alguna que otra lata de cerveza o botella de plástico, que tira cuando vuelve a tierra firme.
Quizás te sorprenda saber que lleva menos de dos años creando colgantes para la pared, llaveros, joyas y todas sus demás creaciones inspiradas en los atrapasueños. Aprendió técnicas de macramé y a hacer diferentes nudos con tutoriales de YouTube, pero una vez que supo cómo hacerlo, dejó de copiar y empezó a crear sus propias piezas.
